In an area called by the villagers “Lakkos,” known as “Kolloukas,” signifying its swampy land, sits a centuries-old church. When she was threatened, her sheep, the legend says, gave more milk than ever before. To show her gratitude to her saviour, an unknown shepherd and his fellow herders decided to build a church, and that is why they named the church “Galoktisti” which means built from milk.
Legend has it that the shepherd and his friends gathered sheep and goat milk to build the church. The church “Galoktisti” meaning built of milk’s name, echoes this tale. The recent restorations, preserving a centuries-old structure, are a testament to faith. The church’s serene walls hold echoes from the 11th and 12th centuries.
