Medieval Tower Kato Pyrgos

Trulli hill, Kato Pyrgos

Ruins of the medieval tower on Trulli hill above Kato Pyrgos and the sea

Perched on the picturesque Trulli hill in Kato Pyrgos, Cyprus, stands a medieval tower. A silent sentinel from the Byzantine era, it served as a beacon for friendly vessels and a watchful eye on the horizon.

Despite its grandeur, it didn’t inspire the village’s name, Kato Pyrgos, which emerged later. The true ‘tower’, or Pyrgos, lies further inland in Pano Pyrgos. Amidst the hexagonal ruins on Trulli hill, you’ll find yourself whispering with history. Pyrgos has always been a symbol of guardianship and maritime lore.
